Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you (“you”, “your”, or “Customer”) and the operator of LOOKIP.IO (“Lookip”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By creating an account, generating an API key, using any endpoint underapi.lookip.io, or browsing the website at https://lookip.io, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity, and “you” refers to that entity. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to enter into these Terms.

2. Definitions

• Service — the Lookip website, dashboard, REST API, public lookup tools (such as VPN check, proxy check, My IP), and supporting infrastructure.
• API — the HTTPS endpoints served atapi.lookip.io, including /v1/lookup/* and /v1/batch.
• Customer Data — all data you submit to the Service, including account information, API key labels, IPs queried, and optional context payloads (such as userAgent, email, username, note, tags) attached to lookups.
• Lookip Data — the enrichment response we return for a queried IP, including location, network, mobile, threats, and flags fields.
• Credit — a prepaid, non-interest-bearing balance denominated in U.S. Dollars that you buy in advance and spend by making API calls. Credit is a prepayment for future services. It is not a deposit, not e-money, and not a stored value instrument redeemable for cash.
• Credit Lot — a single purchase or grant of Credit, carrying its own expiry date fixed at the time it is added. Your balance is the sum of the unspent amounts of your unexpired Lots.
• Lookup Kind — LITE or MAX, the two tiers of enrichment depth. Each has its own per-call rate. There are no subscription plans, nothing metered by the month, and no feature gates.

3. The Service

Lookip is an IP intelligence service. We accept an IPv4 or IPv6 address from you and return structured data about the network and approximate location associated with that address. The Service is provided over HTTPS with Bearer-token authentication and is intended for software developers and operators.

Lookip is a reseller of upstream IP intelligence data. We do not originate the underlying datasets; we license, normalise, cache, and serve them through our own API surface, dashboard, and tools. See Section 8 for details.

4. Accounts & API keys

To access most features you must register an account with a valid email address and a password (or by using a supported identity provider such as Google). You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date.

You are responsible for safeguarding your password and any API keys issued to your account. An API key spends your Credit and grants access to your historical lookup data, including any context payloads you have attached. You must:

• not share keys publicly (for example, in client-side code, public repositories, or screenshots);
• rotate or revoke any key you suspect to be compromised, immediately via the dashboard;
• notify us at [email protected] if you become aware of unauthorised access to your account.

A key is displayed once, when you create or regenerate it. We store only a SHA-256 hash of it, so we cannot show it to you again or recover it on your behalf — a lost key is replaced from the dashboard, which invalidates the old one immediately. Keys are accepted only in the Authorization header.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account or with your API keys, whether or not authorised by you, until you successfully rotate or revoke the key.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to, and not to allow any third party to:

• use the Service to violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right, including data-protection, anti-spam, anti-discrimination, or export-control laws;
• use the Service to harass, defame, stalk, or target individuals, or to enable any form of doxxing, dragnet surveillance, or unlawful tracking;
• resell, sublicense, or redistribute Lookip Data as a standalone product, dataset, feed, dump, or database, or expose the API directly to your end users in a way that effectively substitutes for them obtaining their own Lookip account;
• scrape, mirror, or otherwise create a derivative dataset whose primary purpose is to reproduce the underlying enrichment data outside the Service;
• attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code of the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits;
• circumvent rate limits, credit metering, or authentication, including by creating multiple accounts to collect the signup credit repeatedly;
• upload, transmit, or otherwise process content that contains malware, infringes intellectual property, or is unlawful, obscene, or harmful to minors;
• submit special categories of personal data (such as data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health, sex life, biometric or genetic data) inside the optional context payload of a lookup request — the context field is intended for operational metadata, not sensitive PII;
• interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or the data it returns, for example through denial-of-service techniques, abusive crawlers, or attempts to overload the upstream data provider.

We may, at our reasonable discretion, investigate, refuse, throttle, or terminate activity that we believe violates this section.

6. Credit, payment & expiry

The Service is prepaid and pay-as-you-go. There is no subscription, no monthly fee, no recurring charge, and no minimum commitment. You buy Credit in advance and each API call debits your balance at the published per-call rate for that Lookup Kind. Current rates are published at https://lookip.io/pricing and are stated in U.S. Dollars.

The minimum top-up is $10. Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe; we never see or store full payment-card numbers. Customers in Thailand may pay in Thai Baht via PromptPay, converted at a rate we refresh periodically; the amount of Credit you receive is denominated in U.S. Dollars.

6.1 Credit expires

Each Credit Lot expires, and any unspent Credit remaining in it at expiry is forfeited. Expired Credit is removed from your balance, is not refunded, is not converted to cash, and does not roll over. The expiry period is fixed when the Lot is added and depends on the amount:

Credit is spent soonest-to-expire first, so a Lot that is closest to its expiry date is drawn down before newer Credit. Your current balance and the expiry date of each Lot are visible in the dashboard at any time. We do not currently send expiry reminders, so please check the dashboard if you hold a large balance.

6.2 Auto-recharge (optional, off by default)

You may enable auto-recharge in the dashboard. If you do, you authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your saved default payment method automatically and without further action by you (off-session) whenever your balance falls below the threshold you set, for the refill amount you choose. This authorisation continues until you either switch auto-recharge off or remove every saved card — note that removing your default card while another is saved promotes that other card to default and auto-recharge will use it. Both actions are available in the dashboard at any time and take effect immediately. If a charge fails we will not retry it for at least one hour, unless you change your auto-recharge settings in the meantime, which clears the failure and allows the next attempt sooner.

6.3 Refunds

Credit purchases are non-refundable, and unspent Credit is not redeemable for cash, except (a) where a refund is required by mandatory law applicable to you, or (b) where we have charged you in error or failed to deliver the Service. If you believe either applies, contact us at [email protected] and we will investigate in good faith. Refunds we agree to are returned to the original payment method.

This section is about refunding a purchase of Credit, in money. It is separate from the automatic reversal described in §7, which corrects a charge for a lookup we failed to serve by returning the Credit to the Lot it was taken from. A reversal is not a payment and does not touch your card.

Taxes (including VAT, GST, or sales tax) are your responsibility unless we are required by law to collect them from you, in which case they will be added at checkout.

7. What is charged, and rate limits

Each successful lookup debits the per-call rate for its Lookup Kind. Specifically:

• Not charged:requests rejected for authentication failure, input validation, or rate limiting (HTTP 401, 400, 429); private, reserved, and non-routable (“bogon”) addresses; and the public ASN endpoints, which require no API key at all.
• Charged: each distinct address in a batch that we attempt to resolve, billed individually at its per-call rate. Entries that are malformed or bogon are not charged, and a repeated address is charged once. The charge is taken when the batch is accepted, not when each lookup returns; entries we then fail to serve are reversed before the response is sent. See the last paragraph of this section.
• Charged: results served from our cache. You are paying for the data, not for whether we had to fetch it again.

When your balance is too low to serve a request, that request returns 402 insufficient_credit and nothing is served or charged. Your account is not suspended or closed for a zero balance — it simply resumes when you top up.

The Service enforces a rate limit of 50 requests per second per API key to protect availability. Over the limit returns 429 rate_limited and no Credit is spent. A batch call counts as one request against this limit. We may change rate limits to protect the Service; we will not reduce them materially without notice where we reasonably can give it.

Credit is debited when a request is accepted, before the lookup runs — that is what lets us tell you the balance is too low instead of running the lookup anyway. If the lookup then fails, for example an upstream error returning 502 upstream_error, the charge is automatically reversed before the response is sent. You pay for what we serve you.

A reversal returns the Credit to the same Credit Lot it was taken from, at that Lot’s original expiry date. It is a correction of the charge, not a new grant, so it neither extends nor shortens the life of your Credit. Reversals appear in your billing history, and a partly-served batch is reversed only for the entries we did not serve.

The reversal is best-effort: it can fail on its own, and it may not run at all if the Service is interrupted between taking the charge and reversing it. In either case the response reports the charge you actually paid rather than the one we intended. If you believe you were charged for calls we did not serve, contact us at [email protected] and we will make it right.

8. Third-party data & accuracy

Lookip Data is derived in whole or in part from third-party IP intelligence providers. The providers retain ownership of their datasets and license them to us under terms we pass through to you under these Terms. Your right to use Lookip Data is no broader than our right to license it onward; in particular, you may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or republish Lookip Data as a standalone dataset.

IP geolocation and threat classification are statistical estimates, not ground truth. Coordinates, accuracy radius, ASN/organisation, mobile carrier signals, and VPN/proxy/Tor/relay/residential-proxy flags can be wrong, stale, or misleading for any particular address. You must not use Lookip Data as the sole or determinative factor in any decision that has legal, safety, employment, credit, housing, insurance, or law-enforcement consequences for an individual. You are solely responsible for the design of the system in which Lookip Data is used.

We may add, remove, change, or relabel fields in the enrichment response in line with upstream changes, accuracy improvements, or product evolution. Where we consider a change material we will give reasonable advance notice in the docs (see Section 16 for how we give notice).

9. Intellectual property

The Service, the lookip.io name and logo, the website, the documentation, and the software comprising the Service are owned by Lookip or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service and to use Lookip Data internally within your own applications, products, or operations.

You may cache Lookip Data inside your own systems for the legitimate operation of your application, subject to the redistribution restrictions inSection 8 and Section 5. You may not use our trademarks, logos, or trade dress except as permitted by a separate written agreement, except that you may say truthfully that your product is “powered by Lookip” in line with normal nominative fair use.

10. Customer Data & context payloads

You retain all rights, title, and interest in Customer Data. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, process, and transmit Customer Data solely to operate and improve the Service for you (including running lookups, rendering history in your dashboard, metering credit, preventing abuse, and providing support).

The optional context payload you may attach to a lookup (for example a userAgent, email, username, note, or tags) is stored only on your Lookip account and is never forwarded to the upstream IP data provider. You represent that you have the right to send any personal data included in a context payload, that you have provided required notices and obtained any required consents from data subjects, and that you will not include special categories of personal data.

You can revoke an API key from the dashboard at any time. Deleting individual lookup records and closing your account are not yet self-serve — email us at [email protected] and we will action it. See the Privacy Policy for retention details.

11. Feedback

If you choose to send us suggestions, ideas, bug reports, or other feedback about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use that feedback for any purpose without obligation or attribution. Do not send us anything you consider confidential or proprietary.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service and Lookip Data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lookip and its licensors disclaim all implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that Lookip Data will be accurate, current, or complete.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Lookip, its affiliates, officers, employees, contractors, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service, whether based in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the fees you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred United States dollars (US$100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (such as liability for fraud, gross negligence, or wilful misconduct).

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lookip and its affiliates, officers, employees, contractors, and licensors from and against any third-party claim, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable lawyers' fees) arising out of or related to (a) your use of the Service in breach of these Terms, (b) your Customer Data, including any context payload you submitted, (c) your violation of any law or third-party right, including any right of privacy or intellectual-property right, and (d) any decision you, your customers, or any third party made on the basis of Lookip Data.

15. Suspension & termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. There is no subscription to cancel and nothing recurring to stop, other than auto-recharge if you enabled it (Section 6.2), which you can switch off in the dashboard with immediate effect. To close your account entirely, email us at [email protected]. Unspent Credit is not refunded on account closure (Section 6.3).

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that (a) you have materially breached these Terms, (b) your use poses a security or integrity risk to the Service, to our upstream data provider, or to others, (c) we are required to do so by law or by a request from a competent authority, or (d) continued provision of the Service to you would expose us to legal or operational risk.

On termination, your right to access and use the Service ends, outstanding fees become immediately due, and we may delete your Customer Data after a reasonable grace period in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, governing law, and miscellaneous) will survive.

16. Changes to the Service or these Terms

We are continually improving the Service. We may add or remove features, change per-call rates, change rate limits, or change supported response fields, in each case with reasonable notice for changes that have a material adverse effect on you. A rate change applies to calls you make after it takes effect. We do not reprice calls you have already made, but be aware that Credit you already hold keeps its dollar value rather than its call value — if a rate rises, your existing balance buys proportionally fewer calls.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change we will give reasonable advance notice by posting it on this page. We do not currently send email notifications of any kind, so please treat this page as the authoritative notice channel. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. Governing law & disputes

These Terms, and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

You and Lookip agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at [email protected] and engaging in good-faith discussions for at least thirty (30) days before initiating formal proceedings. Either party may seek injunctive relief at any time in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual-property or confidentiality rights without first attempting informal resolution.

Nothing in this section overrides mandatory consumer-protection rules of your place of habitual residence.

18. Miscellaneous

• Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any order form or written agreement that expressly references them, form the entire agreement between you and Lookip regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements on the same subject.
• Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full force, and the provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to be enforceable.
• No waiver. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to do so later.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of substantially all of our assets.
• Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delays or failures in performance caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, civil unrest, internet or upstream-provider outages, or acts of government.
• Notices. We give notice by publishing it on the relevant page of this site — these Terms, the Privacy Policy, or the docs. We do not currently operate an outbound email channel, so please do not rely on receiving one. You must notify us at the email below.
• Relationship. The parties are independent contractors. These Terms do not create any partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship.
• Export. You must comply with all applicable export-control and sanctions laws and may not use the Service if you are located in, or are a national of, a country or region under comprehensive embargo.
